Operation Drive Buy: May 2008

It was warm, perhaps warmer than a Saturday in May ought to be, but we had fun, we got to shoot, and we did some tactical training, AND we got to drive The Hatter's new Honda ATV. All in all, it was assuredly a day we preferred over those traditional Saturday morning cartoons.

In fact, following our opportunity to drive one of these, we each lusted mightily within our hearts for the opportunity to purchase one.

Left, Bishop test drives the beast, while on the right, Weapon M does a gear check....

We had some friends from the newly formed and hopefully growing West side of the state, and a handful of the usual suspects out to train.

The Level One check went well for those who needed it.

We would like to stress that Level One is merely a baseline for all citizens to start. In a militia riffic world, students would need to pass Level One to graduate from high school, and MEAP would stand for Militia Educational Assessment Program. Big sigh...

Above, Chuckwagon delivers a food run to a crew working up at the house. The ATV served this role perfectly. You should buy one.

After the qualifying (kudos to those who made it...perseverance and patience are the keys to this), we rolled along into some 4 pin shooting. This is a simple, yet effective tactical move and shoot drill that we think is a good measure of one's ability to move and engage targets tactically. In it, you only have to cover about 100 yards or so, but it can become tiring. Come out and do this when you can!

Then it was time for some off-hand or weak hand shooting. Some people can pick this up easily, and some will not. Trying this out in the field is better than finding out the hard way someday that you cannot make a left handed shot if needed.

Shooting left handed around a corner.

You may have to engage a target from a weak handed position to minimize your exposure to enemy fire. If you are unable to do so, MOVE and find another position.

We did some pistol shooting, like it is an addiction or something. I am becoming more comfortable with my Glock17. So boo-yah to you.

Following the mandatory pistol action, we concluded the training with s tactical walk through, with Mad Hatter as a squad/team leader. We are so proud of him....

It was a good day, and unfortunately my last one out there for a spell...
